Too bad the drain plug is easily reached and pulled by my 14 month old girls since it's located in the top, center of water side. We love this sand and water table and would absolutely buy it again. It's also big enough that four kids or more can play at the same time.
One other item I might keep on hand is a soft bristled brush like a shoe shine brush or even a cheap dustpan brush set. This is useful for brushing sand off of clothes, skin, and shoes before coming indoors. Success. The water stayed in and we stayed dry.
We play with it outside on our concrete patio, even in a Northern California winter. After a few frustrated attempts to keep them from pulling the plug, and putting pots under the drain hole, I finally wisened up and pushed a wine cork into the drain hole from underneath the table. The lid stays on, it has a convenient drain hole for the water side, and the umbrella is a nice touch. This lets all the water out and gets shoes and pant legs wet -- which makes for cold winter play.
Until then I use sleeved water resistant bibs which keeps most water and sand off of the upper torso and arms. I know, I've done it. But I can't wait until it's warm enough to send my twins out in diapers only.
The lid is also nice and solid and the elastic bands keep it closed well. It might be nice if it somehow locked into the table since a sudden windstorm already took it out of our yard once. My 4 year old daughter loves this sand and water table. The umbrella seems a little flimsy and I'm not sure how long it will hold up if left outside. Overall, a very good product. The table seems pretty solid and has a good amount of room for playing. Obviously the sand becomes a real mess since it ends up in the water and everywhere around the table.
The lid is very secure and after a lot of storms, I can say that it does keep the sand very dry. I wish there was some kind of plug for the umbrella hole, because every kid I've ever seen use the table wants to dump sand in the hole. We've had it a year now, and the table is starting to sag a bit in the middle, and we don't even keep 1/2 full of sand, but it's had a lot of use. We are getting a lot of mileage out of this sandbox. A good value and something you can live with looking at in your yard. We tried sand in one side and water in the other and pretty much ended up with mud. I like that the colors blend in to our other deck and patio furniture and the umbrella is handy. So, it's all sand now and our kids enjoy driving cars over the bridges and ramps.
We added little chairs from our Step 2 table set and they will play with this for hours. This table is lots of fun. My kids and their friends love it.
I think it's a great combo for the price. I got this for my 12 month old because I wanted a sandbox or water table that she could play with on our deck rather than in the lawn. Would buy again or recommend to a friend. She spends a good 30 mins or so playing, which is great since most toys last 30 seconds. This was a perfect size and height for her. She loves playing in the sand and the water table is just right.
